Am I missing it, or are the visual spotting modifiers missing from table 5.1.1? I've got modifiers for Part 2 for aircraft spotting, but I don't see any weather/time of day modifiers for spotting surface (and presumably air) targets, like the example references.

Found it! For reference, it's in the errata file - not the chart errata, which is why I didn't see it at first!

Wonderful game! Neither too difficult, nor too simple. The level of complexity has been balanced very carefully! Easy enough for a tyro to play, but still there are lots of things to study even when you played many times. Good work, Miller! And wish the other expansions!
BTW, health is the most important!

David,

The MNC system complexity falls somewhere between Harpoon 4 and Shipwreck (but closer to H4 than Shipwreck).

One design decision I made with MNC was that the system had to be able to handle large numbers of missiles and aircraft attacks with a minimum of rolls/calculations, yet still retain a good deal of statistical accuracy with the results. I think MNC has achieved this goal, but the best /most unbiased views on this will be from other players of course.

Thanks!

Comment got cut short for some reason. How do these rules stack up against Harpoon or Shipwreck? Harpoon I find too complicated for a club game and Shipwreck can be too oversimplified

That would be great to see! Perhaps you could call it 'ultra modern' like other rule sets do

David,

Well, there is certainly merit to your words, but 'modern' is of course relative when speaking of a form of warfare that dates backs more than 30 centuries ;-)...plus, at some point I would like to create releases for 'more' modern conflicts for MNC, at least up through the year 2000 anyway.

Thanks for your comment, and if you have any questions about the series just ask.

Perhaps they should consider renaming this product - the 70's were 40 years ago after all!! :)
That being said, it hasn't stopped me putting it on my wish list for a rainy day...

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
